How to Use Mustache Wax

Holy Mustache WaxIt never fails… ship ten orders of our Lucky Scruff Holy Mustache Wax and you can guarantee at least three emails asking “should the wax be this hard” or “I can’t get this stuff out of the can and onto my ‘stache”. Well I’m here to tell you that yes, our mustache wax is supposed to be that hard, it is wax after all. It also has some nice conditioning agents in it like Argan Oil and Mango Butter to help soften it up but it’s still hard by nature. So let’s talk about how you use mustache wax.

Step 1: Warm the Wax

Morning Application: There are many different ways to warm your wax, but the easiest way we’ve found is with a hairdryer on low. You can also just keep the tin in your pocket to warm up naturally. However you decide to warm your wax, just don’t overdo it, you want slightly soft, not runny.

Step 2: Scrape the Wax

Scrape a small amount: You’ll want to use your fingernail, or other improvised scraping device like our Lucky Scruff guitar picks, to push the wax forward in a manner that leaves the wax on the top of your nail. A small amount works just fine, about 1cm. Once you have 1cm of wax in one hand, repeat the process for your other hand so you can wax both sides of your ‘stache at the same time.

Step 3: Massage and Apply the Wax

Roll it around: Now that you have 1cm of wax between your index finger and thumb rub it back and forth or in a circle until it feels like the wax has melted a bit more.Holy Mustache Wax

Traditional handlbar: For the traditional handlebar look, start in the middle below your nose, separating the hairs as you apply and then gently twist the ends up towards your face.

Don’t use too much: Fight the temptation to use a lot of wax at once. Even the largest of mustaches should be waxed in sections, not all at once. Too much wax looks silly and feels weird.

The wax is ridiculously hard. I have to let it sit in the sink of hot water for a while before its usable. Even then, you get it out of the tin and its in little hard chunks before it makes it to your face,
